Abstract
The system thermal hydraulics chapter deals with the specific modeling challenges arising from using a liquid metal in a system thermal-hydraulic simulation code. Challenges related to heat transfer, hydrodynamic models, and thermodynamic properties are explained. Subsequently, the RELAP5/Mod3.3 modified code is shortly introduced, and its application to design and analysis of a liquid-metal experimental facility is shown as an example. Finally, other similar codes suited for liquid-metal-cooled reactor system modeling are introduced, that is, CATHARE, ATHLET, SPECTRA, and SAS4A/SASSYS-1.
