    Abstract

The equilibrium concentration of point defects quenched in sodium chloride crystals has been determined by density measurements. The activation energy ensuing from this measurements is 1.9 eV. Comparing the activation energy obtained by our density measurements with the energy derived from ionic conductivity by Etzel and Mauer we find the binding energy of a vacancy pair to be V = 0,89 eV.
