A semi-classical description of nuclear surface oscillations

    Abstract

    Stationary states are obtained for a Hamiltonian having an almost periodic time-dependence. Eigenfrequencies and inertial parameters for an oscillating system are related to the properties of the equilibrium form. The method is used to study the relation between collective nuclear vibrations and the shell-model. Applications to quadrupole and octupole vibrations of closed-shell nuclei with A ≦ 60 are discussed.
