Abstract
In the frame of the 6th European Framework Programme, the IP_EUROTRANS integrated project aims to design by a step by step approach an European Transmutation Demonstrator (ETD). This demonstrator is based on a fast-spectrum reactor driven by an accelerator and working in sub critical mode. The main design achievements of the IP_EUROTRANS project and the remaining issues identified by the partners are presented in the paper for the two machines studied, XT-ADS and EFIT: the objectives assigned to both machines are obtained (an optimum transmutation level for EFIT, a satisfactorily flexibility for installing experiments in high-flux locations for XT-ADS), their respective concepts being still able to respond to feasibility and safety requirements. Recommendations for future work are also provided, in particular for the new project CDT (Central Design Team), launched recently in the frame of the 7th European Framework Programme and that is described in a separate communication.
