Abstract
A standard solution containing 504 ± 4 μg of actinium has been prepared by dissolving a weighed amount of purified Ac2O3. The 227Ac concentration has been confirmed by microgravimetry and microphotometric EDTA titration with Arsenazo III as indicator. Starting from a known amount of this standard solution the alpha-branching factor of 227Ac has been determined by three independent methods based respectively on the alpha-measurement of daughter-free 227Ac, the alpha-spectrometric determination of the daughter activities in an equilibrium mixture and the observation of the daughter activity ingrowth immediately after the 227Ac purification. The weighted mean value of the branching factor obtained was 1·359 ± 0·14%.
