    Abstract

The formation and stability of intermetallics formed in the Co-free maraging steel PH 13-8 under proton irradiation were investigated by using nanoindentation and microcompression testing and 3D atom probe tomography. Major findings were: - the Co-free maraging steel forms stages of decompostition under proton irradiation at room temperature. - Already formed precipitates do not change shape or size but they do change chemistry under room temperature proton irradiation. - Intermetallics appear to be a promising approach to further increase the radiation resistance of martesitic steels.
