    Abstract

After the March 2011 accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, many countries and organizations have continued to seek lessons from the accident. Enhancing accident tolerance of light water reactor (LWR) fuels has become an important topic of serious discussion to achieve the goal of enhancing safety by mitigating potential accidents.
The vision will be a water reactor fleet using fuels with enhanced accident tolerance to provide a substantial fraction of the world’s carbon-free clean energy.
