Abstract
The objective of this thesis is to provide a preliminary design study of the beam-dump which will be placed after the ISOL@MYRRHA RIB-production target. Monte Carlo simulations are used to determine the spread of the proton-beam after the RIB-production target, the power deposited in the beam-dump, the isotopic inventory in the beam-dump and in the cooling water, and the required shielding around the beam-dump during operation. The geometry of the beam-dump is analyzed through successive simulations. Numerical calculations are also performed to estimate the cooling requirements.
