Abstract
The skyline of Belgium's nuclear research center, SCK•CEN, has changed forever with the demolition of the 60 m tall BR3 chimney. The operation began on August 18 and work at ground level was completed on September 9.
Constructed in about five months in 1959, the brick chimney, which was used to remove the ventilation air from the facility's controlled area, measured 5 m in diameter at the base and about 2,7 m at the top. At the end of the dismantling, 346 m³ of debris weighing 730 tons was removed.
