Abstract
The ionization defect for solid state P-N junction detectors was accurately measured for fission fragments. It was found to be 4.4 ±4 i 1 MeV for the light fragments and 6.4 ± 1.9 MeV for the heavy fragments.
A method to calculate the absorption of energy in the dead layer for these fragments was developed so that the linearity of the pulse height versus energy curve, tor heavy high-energy particles, could be conserved when calibrated with alfa-particles.
