Abstract

This report presents in detail the results of the characterization of Alkali-Silica gels in the context of the cemented concentrate evaporators at Doel from 1982 to 2013. One non-radioactive surrogate gel (3-13A2) and three active gels sampled from cemented radioactive waste packages (D95-0026, D95-0045 and D95-0079) were characterized by XRD, TGA-MS and NMR analyses. Furthermore, their weight and volumetric evolution due to water uptake and release at varying relative humidities has been assessed.
