    Abstract

Energy dispersive analysis of X‐rays as an accessory to a transmission electron microscope has been used to investigate local compositional changes associated with the presence of periodic non‐conservative antiphase boundaries in the initial stages of ordering in Ni3Mo. It is shown how a relative quantitative elemental analysis of the local alloy composition can be performed to a precision of better than 5%. A detailed analysis is described for 13.9 Å spaced periodic antiphase boundaries in Ni3Mo where a local excess in Ni could be determined, leading to a composition of Ni3.4Mo. The measurements confirm the proposed structural model.
