Abstract

The techniques of sampling and the analytical methods are described in detail. These methods take into account the extreme sensibility of carbides to atmospheric agents and also changes in structure or composition. The stoichiometric composition is verified by a gravimetric determination of carbon with a relative error below 0.1%. Traces of oxygen and nitrogen are determined by fusion under a stream of helium and by the method of Kjeldahl, respectively. Volumetric redox methods are employed for the determination of stabilizing additives (Cr, V).
