    Abstract

    Purification by zone melting is applied to uranium. The elimination of two types of impurities is studied : the impurities generally present in the metal as it is prepared and the fission products of irradïated uranium, the efficiency of the purification is measured by the distribution coëfficiënt the value of which is determined for some
    impurities, the traveling speed of the melted zone having extreme values of 5 and 200 mm/h „ The elimination of impurities can be obtained by other methods than zone melting such as scorification and distillation; these methods are studied by static melting .
