The method for the determination of the nature of stacking faults in f.c.c. structures Is now derived from the expressions of the amplitudes of scattered and transmitted waves expressed in a matrix form. The appIicabiIity of the method is then discussed. The determination of the character of the faults, which appear in alloys of Iow stacking fault energy, shows that these faults are of the intrinsic type.
A proposition of interpretation of the behaviour of these alloys with respect to the formation of stacking faults is made on the basis of Brillouin zones theory.
