Abstract

Trace quantities of uranium are determined in various substances
such as clover (trifolium sp»), human urine, aluminium (house-keeping quality], and high purity aluminium. The method Is based on the reaction U238 (n, γ) U239 and measurement of the 74 -keV line of U239. As the half-life of U239 is only 23 minutes, a faast chemical seperation is necessary - the reasonably selective extraction of uranium from sulfiric acid medium with tri-n-octylamIne in kerosine.
The detection limit for a seperation time of 20 to 30 minutes is calculated to be about 5 x  10-11gram.
