Abstract
Trace quantities of uranium are determined in various substances such as clover (trifolium sp.), human urine, aluminum (housekeeping quality), and high purity aluminum. The method is based on the reaction U238 (n, γ)U239 and measurement of the 74-k.e.v. line of U239. As the half life of U239 is only 23 minutes, a fast chemical separation is necessary–the reasonably selective extraction of uranium from sulfuric acid medium with tri-n-octylamine in kerosine. The detection limit for a separation time of 20 to 30 minutes is calculated to be about 5 ×10-11 gram.
