Abstract
The characteristic diffraction effects, associated with polysynthetically twinned crystals are investigated. From theoretical considerations, simple rules are derived which allow to deduce certain characteristics of the twin sequence from purely geometrical features of the diffraction pattern. Optical diffraction simulation is used to support the results. The method is applied to a number of concrete case studies.
