Abstract
The migration of radionuclides in soils may be described by two easily determinable parameters : the distribution coëfficiënt and the dispersion coëfficiënt. Studies of ionic equilibria in soils have led to the formulation of the concept : "distribution coëfficiënt"
(Kd : ml/g) which Is directly related to the velocity of the migration of radioeIements In soils . The degree of dispersion of migrating radionuclides in porous media can be expressed quantitatively by the dispersion coëfficiënt (D : cm2 /s), which takes Into account the physical characteristics of the medium and the phenomena due to molecular diffusion. Longitudinal as weII as transversal dispersion is discussed.
