    Abstract

The acidity of the water is neither the most important nor the only factor governing the biological availability of 241Am for L. stagnalis. An equilibrium beteen the water and the snail is not reached after 22 days. The emptying of the intestinal lumen is strongly influenced by the pH of the water.
