Abstract
Mallard ducks appear to be covenient and useful inicators for radioactive contamination near nuclear sites. The relatively long effective half-lives of cesium and cobalt in such ducks would integrate changing rates of radioactive releases over a period of several weeks. On-site information on such birds would be needed if one wished to correlate such data directly with amounts released.
