Abstract
The methods avoiding Chemical solution of irradiated fuel in aqueous medium and at the same time all problems caused by aqueous chemistry, can be divided into two groups :
~ Chemical methods consisting of halogenation followed by volatilization
or by some other physical separation ;
- pyrometaIIurgicaI methods in which reprocessing of the fissile material
is based on a metalIurg1 cal separation procedure at high temperature-
For both groups of processes the techniques as weII as the present
state of development are dealt with.
Their advantages and disadvantages are further discussed in the scope of reactor exploitation and nuclear fuel cycle in general, and thence the importance of some deveIopmentaI phases In this field is deduced.
