Abstract

An experiment conceived by CEN-Mol and performed together by CEN-Mol and CEA-Saclay, consisted in the partial burning of a slightly irradiated BR1 type fuel element ; the purpose of the experiment was to get information about the combustion kinetics and the resulting fission products release. The report describes the experimental set-up and the results obtained for temperatures, weightof burned uranium, fission products release.
The experimental method is analysed and possible improvements for future experiments are proposed.
