Abstract

A Roadmap, with clear objectives, linking EURAD activities (as listed in the strategic research agenda (SRA)) to milestones typical of different phases of a radioactive waste management (RWM) programme has been developed. It is based upon the IAEA phases for implementation of a deep geological repository [1]: • Phase 1: Policy, framework and programme establishment; • Phase 2: Site evaluation and site selection; • Phase 3: Site characterisation; • Phase 4: Facility construction; • Phase 5: Facility operation and closure;
