Abstract
Three R&D projects on management of nuclear and radiological emergencies were launched in the EURATOM FP7 programme (DETECT, NERIS-TP and PREPARE). These projects were started to develop new tools and methods in updating radiation monitoring networks and decision support systems, to make the national operational systems in Europe more coherent, and to support the creation and operation of a European platform on preparedness for nuclear and radiological emergency response and recovery. Experiences gained during the past years have indicated that competent authorities in the EU member countries should have more coherent approach and compatible working procedures in nuclear emergencies. This paper deals with the three projects in the EURATOM FP7 programme focusing on development of the European systems to prepare for, respond to, and recover from nuclear and radiological emergencies.
