Abstract
The Debye temperature of ThO2 is calculated using existing data for heat capacity, neutron diffraction and elastic constants. The resulting values are 259, 268, and 290 °K, respectively. Attention is drawn to the existing confusion in the definition of the Debye temperature which involves the inclusion or exclusion of a factor \documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$ \sqrt[3]{3} $\end{document} depending on how the vibrational units are defined.
