    Abstract

The backscattering of an isotropic flux of 235U(nth,f)-fragments from Au has been studied experimentally under various experimental conditions. The results are compared with predictions of a Monte Carlo calculation based on the Lindhard theory. The agreement is very good. The total amount of fragments backscattered from gold is 5.12%. Some measurements on Cu and Al were also done, revealing a strong Z-dependence of thebackscattering phenomena.
