Fe3+ ion lifetime in CoO deduced from the auger and Mossbauer effects

    Abstract

    A theoretical study is made of the Auger cascades which follow the capture of electrons by Co57 nuclei, taking into account the K7 Coster-Kronig transition. The mean lifetime of trivalent Fe57 ions located at Co sites in CoO is calculated using the experimental ratio of the concentrations of bivalent and trivalent Fe57 ions.
