Abstract
The results of the first half-scale test provide important evidence to demonstrate the feasibility of constructing the Supercontainer buffer using currently available techniques. They also validate finite element calculations performed to simulate the thermo-hydro-mechanical (THM) behaviour of the concrete buffer. Such activities provide valuable practical experience for optimising design, safety and construction procedures for the Supercontainer.
