Abstract
This deliverable summarizes the results obtained by SCK•CEN and ENEA regarding oxygen control system for HLM large pool systems. In the frame of the SEARCH (Safe Exploitation Related CHemistry for HLM reactors) Collaborative Project (7th
Framework Program EU), ENEA assumed the commitment to design, implement and test an oxygen control system for HLM large pool system (CIRCE). The first part of this report deals with the implementation of the test section in CIRCE pool, and
the issues faced about the design and realization of suitable oxygen sensors for large pool. The second part describes the efforts of SCK•CEN to develop a high‐fidelity CFD model of particle‐to‐fluid mass transfer to predict the mass transfer coefficient of PbO mass exchangers for oxygen control in LBE cooled systems. SCK•CEN also performed extensive experimental measurements on PbO dissolution in liquid LBE with the CRAFT loop, at SCK•CEN. The simulation results are in good agreement with the experimental results .
