    Abstract

This PhD thesis aims to investigate the biological effects and mechanisms in the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana upon chronic exposure to alpha, beta or gamma radiation. To do so, it first establishes a new working model for dosimetry calculations in plant roots and shoots. Secondly, it investigates the age-dependency of the response to ionising radiation. Finally, it compares the effects of alpha radiation (emitted by 241Am) and beta radiation (emitted bu 90Sr) on morphology, physiology and at the molecular level.
