    Abstract

Graft experiments between Acetabularia acetabulum L. (Silva) and Batophora oerstedii J. Agardh have shown that incompatibility exists between these two Dasycladaceae. The grafted nucleated basal fragments of Acetabularia die or eventually regenerate a new cell. The enucleated halves of Batophora survive for more than 3 months and develop numerous sporangia which remain sterile.
