Abstract
The structure of the X‐phase with ideal composition Au15Mg4 which was determined previously by the same authors is confirmed by the use of high resolution electron microscopy. A new phase, the Y‐phase with ideal composition Au4Mg is discovered; its structure is derived by means of electron diffraction and high resolution electron microscopy. It is related to that of the X‐phase. Structure images are obtained from the complicated hexagonal structure Au77Mg23, confirming the crystal structure determined by Burkhardt et al. This alloy provides the first example of translation coincidence patterns along antiphase boundaries.
