    Abstract

Experiments on the contamination of pastures by radioactive fallout under field conditions, are described for the period from 1958 to 1963. The results show that contamination of miIk is directly related to the contamination of grass (expressed as activity per dry weight). In a region where fallout occurs homogeneousIy, the level of the contamination of the milk is determined by the yield of the pastures and is higher in areas where the yield is lower. Different plant species, used for cattle feeding are compared with respect to their retention of fission products from fallout.
