Abstract
The paper reports an improved method to exploit fully the physical characteristics of the 6Li(n,α)t reaction for neutron spectrometry. It is shown how, by analysing simultaneously the energiesof the two emitted particles by means of a two-parameter analyser, one can eliminate and measure the background, generated by gamma radiation or competitive reactions, while measuring the Eα + Et or Et spectrum.
Solutions to the drawbacks of Et spectrometry i.e. screening of the responses to low neutron energies by the high neutron energy trail (phenomenon common to all indirect techniques) and partial superposition of the Eα distribution to the triton one are stated and illustrated.
