Abstract

The association of substances increasing radiosensitivity or radioprotection with irradiation treatment have not up to date achieved any striking results.
This partial set back is due tot the toxicity and non-specific city of the drugs used.
Of the substances increasing radiosensitivity certain antimetabolites purine and pyrimidine bases may offer some hope in the future. Of radioprotector substances some sulfyhydryl compounds (AET and MEA) may be of therapeutic value either in preventive or curative irradiation of large body areas, or in high dosage irradiation of smaller areas.
Whatever progres may be made in the future these substances can only act paliatively or as an adjuvant to preventive treatment.
