    Abstract

SCK•CEN has a long standing history with the testing of uranium-plutonium MOX fuel, both for Light Water Reactor (LWR) and Fast Reactor (FR) applications. ITU is renowned for its highly advanced lab-scale fuel fabrication expertise where novel ideas on improving technology or production of dedicated "exotic" fuels can be realised. SCK-CEN and ITU have performed several fuel R&D projects on innovative MOX fuels. In the framework of these projects, fuels and fuel pins were designed, manufactured and irradiated under representative Pressurised Water Reactor (PWR) conditions. In this paper, results obtained on thorium-plutonium and uranium-plutonium MOX fuels are presented.
