Abstract
Certain manipulations of highly reactive metals and, in particular, certain processes for fabricating fuel elements must be performed in an argon atmosphere extremely pure.
This article describes the practical possibilities of an installation for the purification of argon, based on the Chemical combination of the impurities. The authors stress the economy effectuated by replacing the alloy of titanium and zirconium ( 50-50 atomic weight) by titanium sponge. The influence of the temperature of the titanium charge on the elimination of the nitrogen is also examined. The operating safety of the installation has been scrupulously perfected.
