Abstract
A series of experiments has been performed to investigate the interference properties of transition radiation in the X-ray spectral region. The X-rays were produced at the Accélerateur Linéaire de Saclay (ALS) with electrons of 450, 500 and 565 MeV traversing thin foils. Three specially designed radiators very clearly showed interference effects in the angular distribution of the emitted photons. The peak position as well as the relative peak intensities of the angular distributions are consistent with calculations.
