Abstract
Employing a torsion pendulum, internal friction peaks are found in platinum (99.99% purity) and nickel (99.999% and 99.88% purity) following cold work at room temperature. These peaks are identified with stage III recovery. The value of τ0 associated with the dominant nickel peak is examined critically. Calculations of entropy changes and attempt frequencies lead to three possibilities for the relaxation process.
