Abstract
After a rapid view of the atomic structure, the author defines the notions of isotope and radioactivity. The various modes of radioactive disintegration are then examined and the characteristics of the various types of radiation α, β and γ reminded. A study is made of the properties of these radiations when in contact with the matter.
The possibilities of radioelement applications are then considered from the angle of two important principles:
- utilization as tracers
- utilization as radiation sources.
The infinite possibilities of application in laboratory work as well as in industry are illustrated by some examples.
