    Abstract

This special issue highlights the advantages of intelligent systems such as neural networks, fuzzy logic, genetic algorithms, and many modern approaches for process monitoring and diagnosis, which can be viewed as complementary to traditional approaches; as a result, new or combined surveillance techniques and diagnostics such as intelligent systems provide a powerful tool for solving intricate problems pertaining to the process monitoring and diagnosis of nuclear power plants.
