Abstract
This paper gives a review of the situation and possibilities concerning the use of ceramic materials for the construction of heat exchangers. After some considerations about certain ceramics and their properties, the corrosion behaviour is discussed. In the last part the domains of application (heat recovery, process heat, energy conversion systems) and the different types of heat exchangers are highlighted.
