Abstract
The possibility of increasing the storage life of strawberries by gamma irradiation has been investigated. Especially the effect of irradiation of Red Gauntlet strawberries on mycological infection, vitamin C content, colour, viscocity and density of the juice has been examined.
The tests show that gamme irradiation can prolong the cold storage life of strawberries by a factor of three. A dose of 0.5 Mrad causes a softening of the strawberries, and the ascorbic acid content was found to decrease. The optimum dose is about 0.25 Mrad.
