Abstract
The fission products released by nuclear detonations constitute a potential hazard from the biological point of view. The various sources of contamination are mentioned and discussed.
Examples, drawn from the temperature, of the levels of contamination of beings living in water (marine and fresh water) are given. In the contamination of the terrestrial environment by the radioactive fall-out, the role of the soil and the two mechanisms which influence the contamination of terrestrial plants are especially evoked, Some factors influencing the transfer of the fission products in the food chains are mentioned.
