Abstract
Taking account of power levels, reliability and practical performances, this report first involves a systematic evaluation of the various methods that may be used to convent the energy of radioactive decay Into useful electrical energy ; this shows that only three procedures appear as reasonably weII fitted to this form of primary energy. In all three cases, the energy evolved from the radioelement is first
degraded into heat by se1f-absorption of the radiation. Thermophotovoltaic conversion seems promising, but it is still in its earliest developmental stage .
