    Abstract

The maximum credible accident is defined as the mos serious accident which one can conceive without involving any physical impossibility, within the frame of hypotheses which have a probability of occurence considered as not negligible.

In the case of the tritium laboratory this accident is defined as a fire which would destroy the different rooms and release to the atmosphere all the tritium contained in the laboratory ; the quantity of tritium supposed to be in the laboratory when the fire starts is the maximum foreseeable quantity with respect to the existing installations.
