    Abstract

The thermal neutron capture gamma-ray spectrum of 52V has been measured with the curved crystal spectrometer at the DR-3 reactor in Risø. A level scheme is constructed using the energies and intensities of capture gamma lines between 20 keV and 1 MeV. The levels are identified as the low-lying part of the configurations (proton 1f 3 2)3 (neutron 2p 1 2, 2p 1 2 or 1f 5 2), which have been studied by shell model calculations with effective proton-proton and proton- neutron interactions. The spectroscopic factors of the proton groups leading to these states in the 51V(d, p)52V reaction and the relative reduced M1 transition probabilities between them are satisfactorily reproduced by the calculations.
