Abstract
The methods proposed as yet for the dosage of β-aminoisobutyric acid (BAIBA) in urine are tedious, not very sensitive and semi-quantitative. We have elaborated a rather simple method which permits us to measure quantitatively small amounts of BAIBA without need of preliminary demineralization and concentration. Approximately 50 μl of urine are directly applied to paper. After two consecutive developments in the same solvent, the spot of BAIBA is sharply isolated. The coloration is measured by transmission in the densitometer. A doubling of the normal excretion rate of BAIBA can be detected with sufficient precision.
