Abstract

The thermal neutron induced fission cross section of ²⁴³Am has been measured using a very intense, very clean thermal neutron beam at the Institut Laue-Langevin, Grenoble. Great care has been taken to ensure the purity of the sample material. As a result of these measurements, a value of (74 ± 4) mb has been obtained for the ²⁴³Am(n_th,f) cross section.
